We dont believe in using exotic tropical woods, that's not eco. 90% renewable and local Coconut used. Once old and tall, it no longer gives good coconuts and is more difficult to harvest. Time to mill 6m long straight beams and plant some more.

Tirso, Martha's other half, is our resident whistler, gardener, opens coconuts and makes sure the machetes are too sharp for kids to use. #NoKids
It's a metaphor. Hopefully your stay with us will plant a seed for you in your life, inspiring you to grow.
Sometimes a tool just gets retired right on the spot and we grow mint in it. #MoijtosMoProblems

Nothing good comes easy and nothing that comes easy is good.
We are are far from self-sustaining with our food production. But we put lots of love in and sometimes get spicey treats as gifts. When preparing our meals for you, we used as much as possible from the garden.
All our water comes from one of two wells on the property and pumped using solar energy. This same water is filtered for drinking.
Amaranth the super grain. We have many super foods planted: Moringa, Chaya, and Noni (just to name a few)
There is no glass recycling in the area, so we make glass bricks by cutting bottles in half. The left over necks make perfect planters to get our tomatoes started in.
As spicey as our knifes are sharp. You have been warned
One of 2 composting toilets. We consider the work of maintaining our toilets to be humbling act of work and essential to complete nature’s process. Humans are at the top of the food chain, we eat the best and most nutrient rich foods available.
The waste from our kitchens goes back into our food system; so should our bodies’ waste. Instead of contaminating our groundwater using chemical fertilizers to grow food and septic systems, we prefer to be part of a complete system, adding nutrients
Enjoy a sunrise beach view while making an organic contribution to our compost. We recycle all waste from kitchen and the human body. Our dry composting toilets waste no water while completing nature's cycle returning all nutrients to the garden.
Facts:
The oldest building on the property.
We recycle all our organic waste, with no water squandered in the process.
Later, someone will shovel your organic waste. Appreciate that.
1% of Earth’s water is fresh and available. Why contaminate it?
Remove lid and put the seat down.
TCB (Take Care of Business)
Toilet paper goes down the hole.
Put 2-3 scoops of sawdust down
Sprinkle around for best coverage
No need to conserve
Replace lids on hole, toilet paper and sawdust
We have chickens, peafowl and turkeys. There are many native birds. All make noise. This is a great place to observe birbs in their natural habitat. We can loan you multiple books on their indentification. Also check out Cornell's birdnet.. wow!
Until the day it ends, New Ruins is a work in progress. Curtail your expectations of a polished resort. We are hard workers and theres always something going on. There will always be seams where the new mets the old. We can loan you a Come Along
We are off the grid. We produce our own energy. We pump our own water. We pipe in internet via long range microwave antennas.
All of these come with their own set of problems. But the reward is worth it.
We give workshops on off the grid living.

In the morning you'll only hear the birds and at night only hear the crashing waves. We are far away from the city's touristic zone, and are instead a place where you can inspire, relax and think immersed in nature. Perfect for getting some work done, focusing on a project or just yourself. New Ruins is a transformational experience of a perfectly balanced world, where you consume only what you need and find comfort in simplicity. New Ruins is situated on 10,000 sq. m (2.5 acres) in the hills above the ocean. We have beautiful views and incredible landscapes: huge trees, cacti and rocks. You'll have a nice beach practically all to yourself. Great climbing rocks at the point and a surf break 15 mins walking. We have more than 50 fruit trees, a few of varieties you've most likely never heard of. We have vegetable and decorative gardens, beautiful outdoor shower tucked away in a rock nook, two beautiful composting toilets (one with the most incredible view of the sunrise above the cocos, beach shacks and the rocky point) The property has multiple buildings and trails leading around to different hangout spots. 2 kitchens, a pool, 4 seperate houses. A large outdoor dining area for 20 people. The property has multiple buildings and trails leading around to different spots. But you'll be staying in Dome Complex: 3 round SuperAdobe earthen round houses. The half a meter thick earth walls keep it very cool during the day and night. The Cone has a queen bed, simple furniture, including a computer chair and a ceiling fan on the first floor, while the second floor is an open air balcony all made of wood, has an ocean view and the breeze is always blowing. The lighting is very soft in the evening, which gives a very nice vibe that every guest can feel. The Dome has 1 queen bed on the first floor and another queen bed in the loft, its considered a 1 bedroom because technically in the same large room, but the loft makes each space feel more private, theres also a computer chair. The Cone and Dome share a bathroom with shower and Pee Only Toilet and needs to use our composting toilets for number 2. The Temple is our newest Earth Dome, it has two private terraces, a king bed that can be seperated to make 2 singles and has private bathroom with flush toilet (a first at New Ruins and makes use of a biodigestor). The Stargazer is a two story building set further back, it has 2 full beds on the first floor, sharing a large space with the kitchen. The 2nd floor has 1 queen and 1 full bed. The shower is open air, but has nice protection from viewing. There are simple urinals for peeing, designed to be used by females also. And guests of star gazer need to use one of the two composting toilets for pooping. This listing is for the entire retreat space, there will be no other guests, only the center hosts and employees. There is a yoga shala or event space with expansive views, a geodesic ceremonial dome for yoga, mediation or other activities, beach palapa, pool, and large kitchen and dining area for 16+ people The center hosts live on the property in another house on the furtherest part of the large property. are around when needed and also not up in your space. New Ruins is very isolated, there are no shops, restraurantes or neighbors. Please be prepared with anything you may need ahead of time. Nearest shopping is 30mins away in car or 200 pesos via taxi. El Venado is about 2 KM away and is community of coconut farmers. Therefore you'll be surrounded buy huge coconut plantations. The houses are almost completely made from different parts of the coco. On the other side of us is Roca Blanca, a small tourist beach, visited by mostly local Mexicans. It has a surf break, rustic palapa restaurants and is great swimming and snorkeling. It is a walkable distance along the beach or a dirt road, about 20 mins walking or 5 by car. We are very remote and its difficult to get in and out. * We have a 12 person passenger Van. 2000 pesos per airport shuttle. * A taxi from rio grande will come and take you to rio grande for 200 pesos. (Easier) * But there are collectivo taxis that come and go every 30 mins in el venado, 2 kms away walking. For 15 pesos they'll take you to Rio Grande, the nearest town with commercial services and connections to other towns . And another 15 pesos to get back to el venado. (Cheaper) * From rio grande or along the highway The Collectivo Vans (Urvans) will take you to Puerto Escondido 45 mins away for 45 pesos. * From Rio grande, 20 pesos to get to the entrance of Chacahua National Park Lagoon system. * 2 hours Driving to Mazunte. * Having your own car or motorbike would allow for maximum mobility. Heres some things you might not like: It's rustic, as in not a 5 star resort. It is charming and comfortable but there are some bugs that might bite you as the buildings are separate and require walking outdoors. The rooms are, however, bug free. We are far from stores. Bring any medicines, personal items. Some rooms have private bathrooms. Others only have shower and a pee only toilet and short walk to 1 of the 2 dry composting toilets that use sawdust. The ocean isn't always safe for actual swimming, but you can always play in the waves. But sometimes it is too rough to go out past the break. Roca Blanca, about 20 mins walking/5 mins in car, is a protected bay and is always safe to swim, and it has local restaurants on the beach where you can get fresh seafood and drinks.
